A STROKE OF LUCK – On the afternoon of 26th of June 2021, the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB (SAM-UP) held its annual intra-organization team building activity, #IntraSAMUP2021, entitled The Borderland, inspired from the series, Alice in Borderland. True to its theme, the activity showcases games inspired from the show as well as mechanics that blend well with the current remote set-up, that got the alumni and resident excited for what is to come.
The Borderland has three phases, where they collect points through games, bargain points and favors with the facilitators to gain an advantage, and in these myriads of games, for the alumni to come, get to know and mingle with the current residents of the organization in the process. Between phases, a tense rivalry between Team A and Team B has risen, where they battle for the higher ground. In the end, after a game of “guessing the member” and a trivia clincher, Team B ultimately won the game.
An announcement of awards was made, where not only the staple awards, like Mr. and Ms. SAM-UP was given to the respective awardees, but also quirky and befitting awards are given to members, notable for their memorable footprint on the organization during this school year. It ended with remarks and a note from both the head of the event, Abigail Alvarado and the outgoing Senior Executive, Charles Leonor, announcing the upcoming special elections. Smiles and laughter were the only things audible as the event head closes the event and the online team building activity was promptly ended.
