Redefining Team Spirit with "SAM-UP All-Star: The Comeback"

The Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB held its much-anticipated event, Intra SAM-UP 2023, at Christian International School last June 10th. The event, with the theme "𝐒𝐀𝐌-𝐔𝐏 𝐀𝐥𝐥-𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤," brought together both current members and alumni of the organization to celebrate their shared love for sports, competition, and the enduring bonds formed within the society. 

The day kicked off with the thrilling Amazing Race game, featuring two teams: Building and Ube Cheese. Participants were divided into teams, and they embarked on a series of tasks that tested their physical and mental agility, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. From navigating through the campus to decoding puzzles and answering questions, the Amazing Race brought out the competitive spirit in each participant. It was Team Ube Cheese who emerged victorious, demonstrating their teamwork and determination. Not only did they triumph in the race, but their infectious energy and impressive cheer at the beginning of the race also earned them the award of Best Cheer. Meanwhile, Team Building was recognized for their creativity, securing the title of Best Group Name. 

Following the Amazing Race, volleyball games took center stage, featuring three teams. Ultimately, Team 1 emerged as the champions, led by their outstanding player Angelo Lizardo, who was awarded the title of Most Valuable Player for his exceptional performance throughout the game. 

The basketball games took the court in the afternoon, with both our brods and sisses divisions showcasing their skills, talent, agility, and sportsmanship. The game was a true display of sportsmanship, with all teams giving it their all. The Basketball Sisses match took the court by storm as participants engaged in a friendly yet intense battle of skills and endurance. The teams, Team Sheeshes and Team Sisses, demonstrated their basketball prowess with exceptional dribbling, precise shooting, and funny yet effective defense. In the end, Team Sheeshes emerged victorious with Dyno John Ugalino standing out among the talented players and was deservedly crowned the MVP for his exceptional contributions to Team Sheeshes' victory. 

Not to be outdone, the Basketball Brods match took center stage, featuring two formidable teams, Team Resi and Team Alum, consisting of the organization's dedicated brods. Team Resi emerged triumphant, securing a hard-fought victory over Team Alum. In the end, Karlle Iane Roie Angeles was hailed as the Most Valuable Player of the game. 

Apart from the competition, the air was filled with cheers, laughter, and a sense of unity as members and alumni engaged in heartfelt conversations, reminiscing about past victories and forging new memories. Intra SAM-UP 2023 not only celebrated the passion for sports but also served as a testament to the enduring bonds nurtured within the SAM-UP community.

In the awarding ceremony, the event team, headed by Rhencis Esteral, expressed their gratitude to all the participants and volunteers who made Intra SAM-UP 2023 a resounding success. The event wouldn't have been possible without their efforts, support, and enthusiasm. 

As SAM-UP looks forward to future events, it is certain that the spirit of unity and the love for sports and community will continue to flourish, leaving a lasting legacy for new batches to come.
