SAM-UP SEMINAR 2021: Unraveling the beauty of Mathematics in Agriculture


NEW KNOWLEDGE HARVESTED!


In celebration of its 37th Anniversary, the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB (SAM-UP) held its first-ever webinar with the theme “MATH IN AGRICULTURE: Discovering the Diversity of Mathematics through its role in Agriculture,” last November 20, 2021, via the Zoom meeting applications. The event was free and attended by more than a hundred students from different universities nationwide. It was also broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube simultaneously.


Hosted by SAM-UP’s residents, Yla Zeth Pascual and Julie Irish Villagomez, the program formally started with an opening remark by the current Junior Executive Jane Rodriguez. Subsequently, the discussion properly began after the speaker, Mr. Jcob Malaguit, an Assistant Professor 1 at Mathematics Division, Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics, UPLB, was introduced. The talk revolved around the importance of Mathematics in the field of Agriculture, which the Philippines is well-known for. It continued for approximately one hour and was followed by an open forum where attendees got the chance to ask questions to the Afterward, the Certificate of Participation was awarded to the keynote speaker and finally, the webinar was formally ended with a closing remark by Raissa Arevalo, Event Head.
