TWICE IN A ROW – The Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB (SAM-UP) conducted #FRESHENUPUPANDAWAY2021, the sequel of #FRESHENUP2020, last February 16 and 18 2021, via the Zoom meetings application.
The event gave college and senior high school students a chance to learn the wonders of integral calculus whilst exploring the depths of outer space. The journey through the cosmos was filled with calculations beyond comparison as the mysteries of integral calculus in our world today were unearthed by our space team. Also, the event alleviated any math anxiety that the students may be facing due to the challenging set-up.
On the first day, Asst. Prof Jonathan Mamplata discussed the lesson on the definition of antidifferentiation. While on the second day, Asst. Prof John Mark Lampos headed the discussion on integration by parts technique, up to the concept of integration by partial fractions. After the discussion on each day, a short assessment was done in the form of a Kahoot™ game in which the top three winners were awarded for their efforts.
The event's press release was published by our media partner, Astig.PH to scout for the community outside the social media accounts for a wider reach. The event was co-presented by the Ateneo Mathematics Society, UPLB Actuarial Science Society, UPLB Computer Science Society, UP Silakbo, Taji's Confectionery, and Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral ng Teknolohiyang Panlipunan – UPLB (STP-UPLB). In coordination with UP Association of Civil Engineering Students - UP ACES, UP Oroquieta, UPLB Mathematical Sciences Society, UPLB Sophia Circle, UPLB Street Jazz Dance Company, UPLB Women's Football Team, and Young Software Engineers' Society.
