Nationwide FRESHen UP, a massive success

MORE THAN 200 STUDENTS joined the recent FRESHen UP!: A Three-Day Academic Booster organized by the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB (SAM-UP). The event was held last August 24, 26, and 28 via Zoom.

This newly introduced event of SAM-UP gave a glimpse to freshman students of the University of the Philippines (UP) on what to expect on their future mathematics courses. The event also aims to introduce the fundamental topics, share different techniques in solving certain problems, show the students one platform that they might use for their online class, and answer some underlying questions regarding the topic.

The organization’s members gave a lecture on different topics per day, specifically, Trigonometry and Conics, Limits, and Derivatives.

Several instructors and assistant professors from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics, Mathematics Division were present in the event, namely: Mr. Eduardo Jatulan, Mr. John Mark Lampos, Mr. Jonathan Mamplata, Mr. Jcob Malaguit, Ms. Yancee Olave, Ms. Mary Grace Recreo.

The sponsors and organization partners that supported seamlessly and made this event possible were UP Math-Physics Society, Haring Ibon UPLB, UP Soil Science Society, and Astig.PH.

Each day of the event ended with a photo opportunity. Seeing the priceless smiles of the participants made the members of the organization genuinely happy knowing that the participants gained the #FRESHenUP2020 advantage and for sure, they will never be afraid to take the #MathirangMatibay2020 challenge!
