Orientation 2019: New Faces of SAM-UP


With the theme "New Faces of SAM-UP", The Society of Applied Mathematics held its orientation at the Mathematics Building Hall last August 15, 2019. Hosted by two of SAM-UP's members, Chazel Casanova and Abigail Alvarado, the program begun with a prayer lead by Charles Lenor and an opening remark by the current Membership Committee Head, Emerald Fajanilag.

started.


Events and other activities of the organization were presented by the incumbent Executive Secretary, Gilbert Tauro. Other achievements were also

presented highlighting the recent achievement of the organization, being the PalaCASan 2018 Overall Champion.


The orientation was attended by some of SAM-UP's alumni Sir Edd Francis Felix, Sir Jonathan Mamplata, Sir Alvin Buhat, and Mr. Ardenzo Gonzalvo. Some

shared their experience when they were still residents members of the organization and how it affected them in the long run.


"Onti lang ang alam kong organization na naghahandle ng national event, at isa ang SAM-UP don." Sir Mamplata said.


Meanwhile, Sir Felix shared how he realized what he wanted to do when he joined the organization, which he didn't think he would do in the first place, and

how he enhanced his social skills to establish good relationship in the professional world.


Two of the members of the organization, Kenneth Ynigo and Joenathan Carpio, also shared testimonies about their experiences upon joining the organization.

"I just want to leave this one to you, na you are more than what it takes to be a UP student. If entering a university like this provides us quality education, I

can say that entering an organization like this can help you prepare and deal with real life situations. Now it's your call will you let us help you see the things behind your naked eye?" Ynigo said.

"SAM-UP is knowledgeable, advanced professionals who importantly understand the future of knowledge" Carpio added.

Furthermore, the orientation was attended by 43 orientees coming from students of different degree programs - BS Applied Mathematics, BS Mathematics,

and BS Mathematics and Science Teaching. Proving that the organization extends its objective of promoting Applied Mathematics to the Philippine Society to different courses.

Overall, the orientation lasted 2 hours where the organization got to introduce itself with different AVPs, testimonies, games, and activities.
