On the 28th of September 2018 at 7 in the evening, the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB, widely known as SAM-UP throughout the campus, held its 15th RUNNIVE, an annual fund-raising activity in preparation for the organization’s anniversary. With the theme “Ready, Set, Glow!”, the members of the organization ran around the upper field of the UPLB Freedom Park, wherein one full round along the oval is equivalent to three laps, in exchange for pledges that they have initially collected from their friends and family.
At 6pm, the event started with a warm-up headed by Rona Culing from Batch Hic Manebimus Optime. Then the members made markers from glow sticks and lit up the park as they ran for a minimum of six laps around the oval.
Paolo Surell and Crystal Perez, both from Batch Hic Manebimus Optime, ran the most number of laps amongst the thirty runners, including the three freshmen (namely Jimwell Lumaquez, Abcedy Labayne, and Miguel Saligumba) who ran along with the members. Surell ran around the oval twenty times (60 laps) while Perez ran around ten times (30 laps), both out of breath after giving their best for the funds of the organization.
The Executive-in-Charge, Joana Dela Cruz , from Batch Hic Manebimus Optime, along with the event head Abraham de la Mar, from Batch La Force du Nombre, and the members who made RUNNIVE XV possible were praised for a successful event.
Even though running is a tedious activity, the members of SAM-UP did it for health benefits, but mostly for the betterment of the organization and the camaraderie of its members.
