Last October 7, 2017 at the UPLB Freedom Park, the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB (SAM-UP) conducted RUNNIVE 14, an annual event that serves as a fund-raising activity in preparation for the organization's anniversary.
Pegged by the theme “Engaging Strength by the Power of Two”, the organization members ran laps with their assigned partners in exchange for the pledges that they have initially collected. RUNNIVE 14 was participated by SAM-UP members including its latest batches, Hic Manebimus Optime and Super Stellae Et Lumen, who were all first-time runners for the said event.
Amongst all the runners, Paolo Surell and Rona Julia Culing emerged victorious as they obtained the highest number of laps ran for the male and female categories. Surell conquered a total of 20 laps while Culing was able to achieve 12 laps.
In addition to the RUNNIVE event, SAM-UP also conducted a team-building activity in which the residents had fun playing brain games and other strategic activities such as "Catch the Dragon's Tail" and "Cash-ya".
After RUNNIVE 14, the event head Paolo Surell and the members of the organization that helped in making the event a success were praised for their efforts in helping the organization raise funds and at the same time, in helping the organization to strengthen the camaraderie of the members.
“As a new member, the event was really enjoyable for us since it helped us bond and interact with the other members. Although running was very tiresome, I never felt that way and still did it since I know that I was doing it for a good cause. Besides, it was also a good exercise that benefits the health of the members. I really had fun playing the games during the team building since it made me feel closer to the other members of the organization.” - Shaira Perez, BS Applied Mathematics, Super Stellae Et Lumen.
