SAM-UP Renders Service to Students Through #ReSess2017

In order to help students who were having difficulties with their math subjects, the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB (SAM-UP) conducted their first ever ReSess, a review session for Math 11 and Math 14 students, last September 27, 2017 at MB 112 and MB 114.

Copies of supplementary exercises and quizzes were provided upon entrance to aid them during the review session. After introducing themselves, the organization's members Sean Derick Eugenio and Kevin Ian Noel Cruz proceeded to discuss the lessons they were assigned with that will help the attendees with their upcoming midterm examinations.

Eugenio was assigned to teach concepts about College Algebra (Math 11) while Cruz handled those who are taking Plane Trigonometry (Math 14). Attendees of the review session were able to participate with the discussion by answering problems on the board while being guided by the lecturers.

While Eugenio and Cruz discussed in front, other members such as Dominique Grace Gocal and Robin Slash Arroyo addressed the concerns of some students. They helped the attendees to further understand the lessons which were being discussed by the lecturers. Gocal and Arroyo also attended to the questions or clarifications that some of the participants raised.

After the discussion, the attendees were instructed to answer the quiz given to them. The top scorers were given awards to show appreciation for the work and effort they have put in.

In conclusion for the review session, participants were given bluebooks and stickers as souvenirs. In addition to that, take-home exercises were also distributed.

After #ReSess2017, the event head Nicole Pablo and the members of the organization were showered with praise and positive feedbacks from the attendees for the success of the review session.

Honestly, #ReSess2017 was a big help to me. The lessons were taught well, the lecturer (Cruz) was very passionate, and the organization ultimately provided the sufficient learning materials to prepare me for the upcoming midterm examination. I will definitely attend the next #ReSess if ever I need help for my future subjects,” Hans Castro, BS Agribusiness Management, Math 14 student, said in an interview.
