SAM-UP Unmasks the True Potential of Students

Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB (SAM-UP) uncovered itself as they conducted their orientation with the theme "Unmask Your True Potential" held at McDonald's Vega Centre, Jan. 19.

The said orientation revealed the abilities and potentials of the organization through the presentation of its successful activities and achievements like being the Overall Champion of the recently concluded PalaCASan, a sports league for the organizations of the College of Arts and Sciences. Also, the annual events of SAM-UP such as Math In Action, which is a National Math Camp for high school students, were also presented.

"Sobrang tahimik ko dati at sobrang mahiyain. Hindi ko rin kaya dating magsalita sa harap ng maraming tao. Kaya hindi ko ineexpect na magiging teacher ako. SAM-UP ang tumulong sa akin para ilabas ang tunay kong kakayahan", Mr. Edd Francis Felix, Junior Adviser of SAM-UP said as he shared his experiences as a member.

Moreover, according to Ceccai Jacla, SAM-UP mold her leadership ability when they let her spearhead the Open-Tambayan last semester even if she was just a member for three months then.

"Na-enjoy ko ‘yung orientation kasi hindi naging boring ‘yung program all throughout at hindi sila nag-fail i-orient kami tungkol sa kung ano ang kakayahan ng organization," Lhoel Adrianne Busano, an orientee, exclaimed.

The orientation was led by Gilbert Tauro who was also a first timer in conducting an event. Tauro expressed his gratitude to the orientees who spent time to know the organization and to the members who supported him in unmasking his potential.

Furthermore, the said event was attended by 21 students from different degree programs - BS Applied Mathematics, BS Mathematics, BS Mathematics and Science Teaching, BS Nutrition, and BS Human Ecology.
