Orientation - SAM-UP Through The Years: Where do SAM-UP Graduates Go?

With the theme “SAM-UP through the years: Where do SAM-UP graduates go?”, the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB conducted its orientation held at McDonald’s, Vega Centre last August 16, 2016. Hosted by the SAM-UP’s representative for the upcoming Mr. and Ms. PalaCASan, Marvin Aquino and Alecia Canga, the program started with an opening remark by Mr. James Carrasco, Senior Executive of the organization.

This orientation is for the orientees to know more about the organization and its members; and also for the members to know you [orientees]. Ibibigay namin ang mga kaya naming magawa para sa inyo,” Carrasco started.

Moreover, the said orientation was attended by three SAM-UP alumni Dr. Jomar Rabajante, Sir Edd Francis Felix and Mr. Darwin Ivan Carrasco. They shared their experiences as members of the organization and their current works and endeavors.

Meanwhile, according to Sir Felix, he realized the things he wanted to do when he joined the organization. Also, Mr. Carrasco added that he learned to establish good relationships with other people and adapt to them without forgetting who he really is.

Furthermore, the orientation was attended by 36 students comprising from different degree programs - BS Applied Mathematics, BS Mathematics, BS Computer Science, BS Math and Science Teaching, and BS Industrial Engineering. This is a manifestation of how SAM-UP does not only limit its objective of promoting the relevance of Applied Mathematics to the Philippine Society to BS Applied Mathematics majors.

Overall, the orientation lasted for almost 2 hours where orientees got to know more about SAM-UP through testimonies, AVPs, and mini-games. In the end, the orientation tapped into a total of 28 aspiring soon-to-be members of the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPLB.
